"More than 30 works of art by masters such as Rembrandt, Corot, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Whistler, Marsh, Chagall and Matisse, just to name a few, will highlight the public showing to be held on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. Ò 4 p.m. and Sunday, June 8, from 1 p.m. Ò 5 p.m. at the Netherland Inn in Kingsport, Tenn. Entry is $10 for adults and free for children 18 and under with a paying adult. Proceeds will benefit the historic 1818 Netherland Inn. ""We are so pleased to work with King College to give visitors a chance to view some of the extraordinary pieces in the Neal and Alice Caldwell Art Collection,"" said Mrs. Dennis Phillips, chairman of the Netherland Inn Steering Committee. ""We are especially honored to have works of this caliber grace the Inn. An opportunity to examine Henri Matisse's 'Fall of Icarus' doesn't present itself very often, so we encourage anyone who appreciates art to come to the showing."" As a leading cultural partner and resource for the region, King College views the public showing of works from the collection as an extension of the college's initiative to broaden appreciation for the arts. ""King College has been very fortunate to become the caretaker of the Neal and Alice Caldwell Art Collection,"" said Nichole Long, King College's director of special events. ""We believe that art is meant to be shared, and we are delighted to share our collection through this showing."" The Neal and Alice Caldwell Art Collection features more than 200 works from a variety of artists, genres and eras in media ranging from oils to sketches. The collection began in December 2003 when King College Trustee Neal Caldwell and his wife Alice, a King College alumna, graciously presented the college with a gift from their personal art collection. Since that time, King has continued to receive annual gifts from the Caldwells and has subsequently built an impressive collection of work from some of the world's finest artists, one considered to be one of the most extensive collections in the southeast.
