The Secret Garden Set Design with Arts4Kids April

Kingsport, Tenn.  (March 25, 2009) — The Arts4Kids Club will be working with the Kingsport Theatre Guild for a set design workshop based on their up coming production, The Secret Garden.  The literary classic written by Francis Hodgson Burnett is a favorite among young readers. The workshop will explore the story through the play adapted by Tim Kelly. Characters from the play will participate as well.  The workshop will take place on April 18^th at 10-11:30am in the theater of the Kingsport Renaissance Center.  To pre-register call the Arts Council of Greater Kingsport at (423) 392-8420.  Arts4Kids Outreach workshop will be at the Riverview Boys and Girls Club on Friday April 17^th and at the Lee Family Center on Friday April 24^th. 

Tina Radtke and Jessica Davis will lead participants in various set design activities. These types of activities are incredibly useful; they promote quick teamwork and a creative environment.  Children will also take part in interactive theater games, including dance and singing.  The games are designed to increase performance and creative skills.  Participants will work both individually and with a group to accomplish the goals of the games, while learning from the experiences.  Each child will also receive a copy of the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett and take part in a script reading with an actor from the production.

Arts4Kids Club is an introductory arts program for children ages 6-12 presented by the Arts Council of Greater Kingsport. Arts4Kids Club registration is $20 for the school-year program, or $5/individual workshop. The program is designed to expose children to a wide variety of arts and encourage their life-long pursuit of creative endeavors.
