June 16 & 24, 2009

The Arts Council of Greater Kingsport, in cooperation with the Sullivan Gardens Public Library and the Thomas Memorial Library, will be offering two workshops and book signings with award winning child author McKenna Andrews. Join us on June 16th at 2pm at the Thomas Memorial Library on 481 Cedar St., Bluff City, TN and on June 24th at 11am at the Sullivan Gardens Public Library, located at 104 Bluegrass Dr., Kingsport, TN; for a presentation and reading from the author herself on her book Riding the Storm Out. Then stay for a writing and illustrating activity, and have your copy of Riding the Storm Out signed by the author. A limited number of copies will be available for sale the day of the signing.

McKenna Andrews was already an award wining author at the young age of 9. Her story was inspired by the true story of captive dolphins swept out to sea by Hurricane Katrina, as told by McKenna, also a Hurricane Katrina survivor.  When asked about McKenna President George W. Bush commented that:
"Your idealism and energy reflect the spirit of our Nation."
Her book Riding the Storm Out has been called:
“The Write Stuff”
by Readers Digest-Weekly Reader and Chicken Soup for the Soul Magazine said:
“McKenna’s story is creating waves of inspiration”

Be sure to join us at this unique event, you won’t want to miss meeting this young inspiration.

The Arts Council of Greater Kingsport is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Tennessee Arts Commission, as well as, the Kingsport Community Foundation (a fund of the East Tennessee Foundation), Eastman Chemical Co., the City of Kingsport’s Cultural Arts Division, and other local sponsors.
