This year’s spring production – Romantic Collection - comes early at Kingsport Ballet – public performances will take place March 6th and 7th at Eastman’s Toy F. Reid auditorium. Each of the three pieces performed has a unique and romantic aura of its own. Professional guest artists will share the stage with Kingsport Ballet Company members. Paquita, with its lively and exciting music composition by Minkus, is an energizing celebration of the ballet kind in bejeweled peach-colored tutus – a reverie for unlikely lovers who reunite - the dancing expresses this energy in a grand-ball atmosphere.
Chopiniana, aptly named after its composer – Chopin – is a romantic reminiscence of an era from the past. This ballet was created as an ode to the time of Giselle-like, ‘white’ ballets of the early 19th century.
Imperial Waltz is Strauss’ creation, with original choreography for young ballerinas by artistic director Valeria Sinyavskaya. The piece conjures an escape to Vienna, Austria, on a summer evening in the late 1800s when beautiful waltzes were danced in open air to the accompaniment of a small orchestra.
All three of these short ballets represent a romantization often seen in ballet; they offer a way to experience beauty, elegance, and perfectly harmonious movement set to great classical music, despite hard times, or personal struggle. In keeping with this theme, ticket prices are lower for this production: $16, $12 and $7.
