2010 Arts Awards Recepients Announced

KINGSPORT—Ten individuals and businesses will be honored at the 2010 Arts Awards to be held Thursday, April 29, 8:30 pm at BANQ in downtown Kingsport. The finalists in the three categories are: Distinguished Artist—Mark Owen Davis, Thelma Wyatt, and Cornelia Kodkani-Laemmli; Arts Leadership—Bertina Dew, Beth Geno, Laura Humphrey, and the City of Kingsport; Distinguished Patron—Hunter, Smith, Davis, Representative Tony Shipley, and John & Angela Vachon. Each of the winners will receive a framed certificate and sterling silver award commissioned from James-Ben Stockton of Greenville, TN.

Award recipients will be introduced during the Arts Awards, followed by a champagne and dessert reception. The Arts Awards will be the final stop of “A Passport to the Arts in Kingsport” Arts Crawl, which begins at 5:00 pm at the State Theater Marquee, 157 Broad Street. This unique collaboration unites artists, area residents and businesses for the purpose of increasing exposure to area artists, providing access to arts and entertainment, as well as raising funds to be used to increase awareness of the growing arts community in Kingsport. Tickets for the Arts Crawl, which includes ten studios each featuring hors d’ouvres and wine, is $30 in advance and $35 the day of the event. Tickets may be purchased online at www.KingsportARTS.org.

The Arts Awards, begun in 1997, seek to recognize individuals and groups who have excelled in all art forms, arts administration and leadership and financial support and advocacy of the arts.
